what we do
COMMUNITY RESPONSE • TRAINING • RESILIENCE
emergency response support
LifeFirst supports community-based medical response efforts within Port Alfred and surrounding areas through volunteer-driven assistance during medical emergencies and incidents within the community.
Due to the challenges faced within rural and small-town emergency response systems, LifeFirst is occasionally contacted by local services and community members when ambulance resources are delayed, unavailable, or operating outside the immediate area.
Our role focuses on providing rapid community support, basic emergency medical assistance, scene support, and patient care until additional emergency services arrive.
Through local partnerships, volunteer involvement, and practical community response initiatives, we aim to strengthen emergency preparedness and resilience within the communities we serve.
FIRE & FLOOD SUPPORT
LifeFirst supports local fire and disaster response efforts through practical community assistance during wildfires, severe weather incidents, flooding, and other emergencies affecting the area.
Working alongside local responders, volunteer firefighting crews, and community members, LifeFirst assists with flood response operations, fire support activities, community preparedness initiatives, and disaster-related support where needed.
During December 2025 and January 2026, LifeFirst supported response efforts during four major fire incidents across the region and assisted local communities during severe weather and flooding events.
Through training, volunteer development, and practical response support, we aim to strengthen disaster resilience within the communities we serve.
COMMUNITY TRAINING
We believe that stronger communities begin with knowledge, preparedness, and practical skills.
Through community-focused training initiatives, we provide free CPR, First Aid, and basic fire prevention workshops aimed at empowering ordinary people to respond confidently during emergencies.
These workshops are hosted every second Friday and focus on practical, hands-on learning that is accessible to members of the community from all walks of life.
Many of the students attending these sessions come through our partnership with Sunshine Life Centre, helping create opportunities for community development, empowerment, and lifesaving education within Port Alfred and surrounding areas.
VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER DEVELOPMENT
Through our partnership with Frontier Fire Assist, LifeFirst has helped establish a volunteer firefighter satellite unit in Port Alfred focused on practical skills development, teamwork, and community-based fire response support.
Volunteer trainees participate in regular training sessions covering basic firefighting principles, hose drills, fitness, wildfire support, fireground safety, and practical response preparation.
The initiative aims to strengthen local response capacity while creating opportunities for personal growth, discipline, teamwork, and community involvement.
